2019년 나는 ‘캣맘(Cat mom)’ 이라는 도시 고양이를 보호하는 사람을 지칭하는 합성어와 같이, ‘도브맘(Dove mom)’ 이라는 명목으로 비둘기를 길에서 포획한다.

비둘기와 인간은 서로 너무 멀지도, 가깝지도 않다. 유해 조수에도 해당하는 이 동물은 ‘하늘의 쥐’라는 비유가 있을 만큼 인간에게 불편한 존재다. 동시에 도시에서 사람과 가장 많이 접촉하는 동물이기도 하다. 우리는 더 가깝게 지낼 수는 없을까? 나는 비둘기와 동거 퍼포먼스를 통해 스스로가 딜레마에 빠지는 작업을 기획하며, 5일의 동거 기간 동안 인간과 비둘기 관계의 모순을 자가 폭로하는 실험을 진행한다.

In 2019, I caught a pigeon on the street under the name of "Dove mom," just like the compound word "Cat mom" which refers to a person who protects urban cats.

 

Pigeons and humans are neither too far away nor too close to each other. Pigeons, which also corresponds to harmful species, are inconvenient for humans to the point where there is a metaphor of "mouse in the sky." At the same time, it is also the most human-contact animal in the city. Can't we get closer? I plan a work that puts me in a dilemma through living with the pigeon and conduct an experiment to expose the contradiction between humans and pigeons during the five-day living period.
